People For Animals (PFA), Mysuru, in collaboration with Acalvio Technologies Pvt. Ltd., conducted an anti-rabies vaccination drive in the city in its ongoing mission to promote animal welfare and prevent the spread of rabies.
The drive was held on Saturday and covered 169 dogs and 12 cats across various locations in Mysuru. The initiative focused on raising public awareness regarding the importance of anti-rabies vaccinations for dogs and effective strategies to prevent dog bite incidents.
A release said stray dogs were vaccinted in locations like Ashokapuram Railway Station, Ashoka Circle, Lakshmipuram, Jayanagar, J.P. Nagar, Kuvempunagar, Kantharaj Urs Road, Chamrajpuram, Mysuru Railway Station, Vidyaranyapuram, Kankagiri, N H Palaya, and Saraswatipuram, etc.
In addition to the anti-rabies shots, 25 dogs received both anti-rabies and vanguard vaccines, providing broader protection. Notably, all dogs operated on at the Mysuru Railway Station were also vaccinated as part of this drive, the release added.
The PFA said rabies is a preventable disease, and vaccination is the most potent weapon against it. “We are pleased with the turnout and the community’s positive response. This drive is a crucial step towards creating a rabies-free Mysuru and ensuring the safety and well-being of both animals and humans,” the PFA said, adding that initiatives will be conducted periodically.
The organisation also urged all pet owners to ensure their animals are regularly vaccinated against rabies.
