Anurag Kashyap is spilling the beans on his time in Bollywood and is not holding back on any of the details. In his latest interview, the director shared that actress Richa Chadha resented him in real life. The director stated that he understood the reason behind the resentment after Richa opened up about it in an interview.
He also revealed that he warned his 'Nishaanchi' leading lady about the same.
Why Richa Chadha developed resentment towards Anurag Kashyap?
Speaking to The Lallantop, Anurag shared that women get stereotyped in Bollywood. He said that once they play the role of mothers, they get stuck essaying moms on screen forever. Citing the example of 'Gangs of Wasseypur', where Richa played the role of Nawazuddin Siddiqui's mother, Kashyap said, "This was at the start of her career; she'd only done 'Oye Lucky Lucky Oye' before that."The filmmaker called her "amazing," adding that the industry stereotyped her. He stated that the actress was not getting offers as a lead after that, and hence she "developed resentments" towards him. Kashyap stated that he got to know about it after Richa, in an interview, stated that playing Nawazuddin's mother in GOW "ruined her career."He added, "But she said this many years later. That’s when I understood why she had certain resentments.
And I thought, 'You could’ve just told me'."
Anurag Kashyap's warning to Monika Panwar
In the same interview, Kashyap shared that he told 'Nishaanchi' actress Monika Panwar the experience he had. The director expressed that it's quite easy to make a young actor look old instead of vice versa.Elaborating on the same, the 'Manmarziyaan' director stated that it takes a lot of VFX work to de-age a person, and hence, it becomes expensive. He said, "I told Monika what the consequences could be. I told her that she has the freedom to turn down the part, and if she accepts and develops resentments later, I’m here to get her back on track."The filmmaker added that Panwar is a trained actor from the National School of Drama and stated that she saw this as a challenge and agreed to play the role.Apart from directing Richa in 'Gangs of Wasseypur', Anurag had also produced 'Masaan', starring the actress and Vicky Kaushal.
