Anushka Ranjan has candidly spoken about her IVF journey, revealing the emotional and physical challenges she faced while trying to start a family with husband Aditya Seal.In a recent vlog, Anushka shared that she initially struggled with the idea of IVF, admitting that she wrongly associated the procedure with a personal shortcoming.
She also called for greater awareness around fertility treatments and urged people to stop treating IVF as a taboo subject.
'We are taught that getting pregnant is easy'
Anushka revealed that she and
Aditya
began thinking about having a family around 2023-24, but were initially quite casual about it."Aditya and I started thinking about having a family. I think in 2023 and 2024 we were very casual about it. We were both busy with work and travelling, so we thought we would figure it out."It was her sister who eventually encouraged the couple to consult a doctor.Anushka said she was surprised to learn how much misinformation exists around conception."You know, from childhood we are taught that if you get intimate with someone, you'll get pregnant. And it's not true. It's really not true."She added, "Your chances are only 15% every cycle to have a baby. I was shocked that we are never given this information."
'Everything looked perfect, but we still weren't getting results'
The actor said that medical tests showed no major concerns."They said your egg quality is great, the sperm quality is great, everything is looking great."However, despite repeated attempts, the couple were unable to conceive naturally."Again and again, we could not get the results that we wanted."Doctors eventually suggested IVF as the next step.
'I felt like something was wrong with me'
Anushka admitted that she initially reacted emotionally when IVF was recommended."When they said the next step would be IVF, I personally felt like, 'Oh my God, does that mean something is wrong with me? Is there something lacking in us?'"She stressed that this perception is completely incorrect."I just want to break that myth. That is not true."Comparing fertility treatment to different approaches to weight loss, she explained that IVF is simply one of many paths to parenthood."It doesn't mean there is something wrong with your body. It's just body to body.
It's life to life. It's person to person."
'IVF is not the easy way out'
Anushka strongly rejected the notion that IVF is an easier alternative to natural conception."Let me just tell you that IVF is not an easy journey.""If somebody makes you feel like it's the easy way out, I am sorry, but the amount of injections, medicines and everything you have to go through is no joke."She also acknowledged the emotional burden that often accompanies the process."There's emotional pressure. Sometimes there is family pressure."The actor credited her family for being supportive throughout her journey."I am very grateful for the family I had because not one person made me feel like, 'Why is this happening?'"
'People hide that they are visiting fertility clinics'
One aspect that particularly bothered Anushka was the stigma surrounding fertility treatment. She recalled seeing couples sitting silently at clinics, afraid of being judged."All the couples sitting there were only talking to each other.""It was always like everybody was hiding. Nobody should see them. Nobody should know that they have come to a fertility doctor."She urged women to support one another instead of treating IVF as a secret."We need to stop doing it. We as women need to create a community where we can become each other's support system."
'Women are very strong'
Anushka said she considered waiting until after delivery to discuss her fertility journey publicly but ultimately decided against it."I was thinking whether I should speak about it or not. Should I talk about it after delivery?"However, she realised that speaking openly could help break the stigma."I didn't want it to feel like a taboo."Reflecting on everything she endured, the actor said the process gave her a newfound appreciation for women's resilience."Genuinely, what I learned from this process is that women are very strong."
'I took around 150 injections'
Opening up about the physical challenges, Anushka revealed the extent of the treatment she underwent."I think I took around 150 injections."Initially, her husband Aditya administered the injections, but the process was often painful and overwhelming."I used to get very scared.""There was one injection that was very thick and oil-based. Whenever he used to give it to me, I used to cry.""I used to cry and cry in pain."She recalled seeing Aditya approach her with another injection and feeling emotionally exhausted."I used to see him walking towards me with the injection and I was like, 'Bas. I can't deal with this anymore.'"
A special message for husbands
Anushka also had a message for partners whose wives are undergoing fertility treatment."Husbands, if you're watching this and your wives are going through these processes, please be sweeter to them."She explained that the medications and injections can take a huge toll on both the body and mind."Even if she has not done anything all day, it's the medication and the injections.
It's not a joke putting those things into your body every single day."According to Anushka, understanding and empathy can make a huge difference."If you don't understand something, that's fine. But if somebody is quietly dealing with it, just support them."
'Don't compare yourself to anyone'
Concluding her video, Anushka offered words of encouragement to women who are considering or undergoing IVF."Please don't compare yourself to anyone.""Please don't make yourself feel like there is something wrong with you."She urged women to be kinder to themselves and remember that every fertility journey is unique."You never know what you need and what happens in your life."Sending her love to women going through similar experiences, she added, "If you've gone through such a tough journey and come out the other side, you're warriors. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise."
