Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma may finally be making her long-awaited acting comeback after a gap of seven years. The 'PK' star had completed shooting for her sports biopic ‘Chakda Xpress’ in 2022.
However, the film, based on Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami, never saw a release.
until now.According to a recent Mid-Day report, the makers are now pushing for the movie’s release on OTT following the Indian women’s cricket team’s historic victory, which has reignited public interest in the biopic.
'Chakda Xpress' in talks with OTT
The reports further added that the film’s producers have written directly to OTT platform India executives to reconsider releasing the project.Reportedly, the makers had personally reached out to top executives at Netflix India, urging them to rise above the internal conflict so that the film could finally see the light of day, adding that a biopic on a legend like Jhulan di truly deserved to reach the audience.The insider also revealed that the production house went over budget, and Netflix executives were initially unhappy with how the project shaped up.
“But it’s still a solid film,” the source insisted, adding that fresh internal discussions have begun within the streaming platform. A final decision and also a confirmation from the makers of this Anushka Sharma starrer is expected to arrive soon.
A quiet life in London
While the film’s fate inches toward resolution, Anushka Sharma and her husband Virat Kohli are currently living in London, away from the Bollywood spotlight. The couple moved out of India in 2024 but frequently return for professional commitments.Meanwhile, Anushka Sharma was last seen in the 2022 film 'Qala' where she played the lead role as Devika. The movie received decent reviews. She was also seen alongside Shah Rukh Khan in the comedy drama film 'Zero' which unfortunately flopped.
