Apple has unveiled its new AirPods Pro 3 and has given two major reasons to upgrade, announcing that the newest TWS earphones will come with Live Translation and Heart Rate measuring features.
The beta launch of Live Translation for its new AirPods Pro 3, introduces a transformational, hands-free communication capability designed to bridge language barriers in real-time. According to Apple, this new feature, powered by computational audio and Apple Intelligence, aims to enable more natural and seamless interactions across different languages.
What is Live Translation on AirPods Pro 3 and how it works
Apple explains that Live Translation on AirPods Pro 3 allows users to communicate by speaking naturally while the technology translates the conversation directly into their ear.
This eliminates the need to constantly look at a phone screen, making it ideal for various scenarios such as international travel, professional collaborations, or casual conversations. For interactions with individuals who do not have AirPods Pro 3 with Live Translation, the iPhone can be used as a horizontal display, showing a live transcription of the user’s speech in the other person’s preferred language. When the other person responds, their speech is translated and delivered to the user’s AirPods.
Apple says that the experience is further enhanced in longer conversations when both individuals are wearing their own AirPods with Live Translation enabled, with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) helping users focus on the translation by lowering the volume of the other speaker.Initially, Live Translation on AirPods will support English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish. Apple plans to expand support to four additional languages – Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese – by the end of the year. As mentioned, this new functionality leverages Apple Intelligence's on-device processing, ensuring a high level of privacy for conversations.
