Apple has announced the new regular iPhone for 2025 — the iPhone 17 — and it comes with the one Pro feature everyone has been asking for years now: the
120Hz ProMotion display
. This one's also bigger at 6.3 inches, has thinner bezels, and peaks at 3,000 nits of brightness. Though it still looks the same, there are some changes here and there. The ProMotion display has the usual 120Hz refresh rate you'd find on the Pro iPhones until now. The refresh rate dips down to 1Hz when you're not actively using your iPhone. Plus, it's also an always-on screen. The screen has the
Ceramic Shield 2
, which Apple says will hold up to scratches better, and that glaring effect out there in the sunlight will also be less thanks to a 7-layer anti-reflective coating on the glass. It's powered by the
A19 chip
that has 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, and 16-core neural engine, which means it has all the power it needs to power the soon-to-be coming
Apple Intelligence features
. With the new chip, and the ProMotion now in action, Apple says gaming should feel smoother than ever.
The “dual fusion” camera system brings 48MP ultra wide to iPhone 17
The camera setup gets interesting this year. Apple's calling it a "dual fusion" system that merges a 48MP main camera with a 2x telephoto into one lens. There's also a new 48MP ultra wide that captures way more detail than last year's iPhone 16. The front camera is where things get weird — it's now square-shaped instead of rectangular and is of 18MP, which lets you snap landscape selfies without rotating your phone. It's also got that Center Stage feature for video calls.
iPhone 17’s a little expensive than iPhone 16, but it’s still more affordable; the maths
Storage gets a nice bump too. The base model now starts at 256GB instead of 128GB, though that means the starting price jumps to Rs 82,900 from last year's Rs 79,900, though it’s lower than what you’d paid a 256GB iPhone 16. iPhone 17 comes in lavender, mist blue, black, white, or sage colours. Pre-orders for iPhone 17 starts September 9, with sales starting September 19.
