Apple releases iOS 26.1 developer beta 4; adds Liquid Glass transparency control and Lock Screen Camera toggle

Apple released iOS 26.1 developer beta 4, introducing a highly requested toggle that allows users to adjust the transparency of the controversial Liquid Glass design language. The new setting, found in Display & Brightness, offers two options: Clear, which maintains the current transparent look, and Tinted, which increases opacity and adds more contrast throughout the system. The Liquid Glass toggle applies system-wide, affecting Apple's native apps, third-party applications that have adopted the design, and Lock Screen notifications. Apple added this customisation option after receiving feedback during the summer beta testing period from users who wanted more control over the interface's translucency. The same setting is also available on iPadOS 26.1 and macOS Tahoe 26.1 beta 4.

Lock Screen camera swipe gets disable option

For the first time in years, users can now disable the swipe-to-open Camera gesture on the iPhone Lock Screen. The new toggle, located in Settings under Camera, prevents accidental launches of the Camera app when swiping left from the Lock Screen. This complements existing camera access methods including the Lock Screen button, Control Center, Camera Control on iPhone 16 models, and the Action button on iPhone 15 Pro and newer devices.

Other changes in iOS 26.1 developer beta 4

Apple Intelligence gains support for eight additional languages including Chinese Traditional, Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese, Swedish, Turkish, and Vietnamese. The AirPods Live Translation feature expands with support for Chinese Mandarin, Italian, Japanese, and Korean.iOS 26.1 is expected to be released later this month, bringing these features to all users.
