Apple removes its fourth ad in about a year, this time in just one day

Apple has reportedly removed another one of its advertisements, this time pulling a nearly eight-minute-long ad titled “The Parent Presentation” just one day after it was posted. The ad, which featured comedian

Martin Herlihy

advising students on how to persuade their parents to buy them a Mac, was posted on Friday (June 20) but vanished from YouTube and Apple's college student webpage by Saturday (June 21). As first reported by MacRumors (via The Verge), this marks the fourth ad the tech giant has taken down in just over a year. However, an accompanying 81-slide presentation template giving parents "45 undeniable reasons why a Mac is essential to college" remains available for download on the company's site.

Apple had to remove Apple Intelligence, iPad Pro ads

This incident follows several other high-profile ad removals. In March of this year, an iPhone 16 ad starring "The Last of Us" actor Bella Ramsey was taken down. That ad showcased AI-enhanced Siri features that are not available to the public. Apple was told to remove the ad because those features never made it to iPhones.Months later, a 10-minute ad called “Out of Office OOO” was pulled following criticism from Thai citizens and lawmakers for its stereotypical portrayal of their country. Apple apologised for the ad that missed the mark.

Last May, Apple apologised for its “Crush!” iPad Pro commercial after it sparked widespread backlash for showing creative tools being destroyed by a hydraulic press. Samsung made fun of the ad with a clip “UnCrush,” which showed a woman navigating through the aftermath of the crushing, finding a guitar and using a Galaxy Tab S9 to view sheet music.Unlike the previous instances, the reason for the removal of “The Parent Presentation” remains unclear. While some social media users called the ad “cringe” and questioned its target audience, there has been no widespread controversy.
