Apple marketing chief Greg Joswiak has officially teased the imminent arrival of the company's next-generation MacBook Pro, featuring the new M5 chip. In a social media post on Tuesday, Joswiak shared a brief animation showing a MacBook silhouette alongside the words "coming soon," strongly hinting at a launch as early in the coming hours. The teaser employed clever visual cues to signal the M5 designation: the laptop silhouette formed a "V" shape (Roman numeral for five), while Joswiak's caption included five consecutive M's—"Mmmmm… something powerful is coming.”
Base model gets priority as Pro variants delayed
According to industry reports, Apple plans to initially release only the base 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 chip. The more powerful M5 Pro and M5 Max configurations for both 14-inch and 16-inch models won't arrive until early 2026, marking an unusual staggered release strategy for the MacBook Pro lineup. The M5 chip, built on TSMC's advanced 3-nanometer process, promises significant performance gains. Leaked benchmarks from an M5-equipped iPad Pro showed 12% faster multi-core CPU performance and 36% faster GPU performance compared to the current M4 chip.
Design refresh remains uncertain amid OLED screen rumors
Beyond the chip upgrade, Apple hasn't confirmed any major design changes for the M5 MacBook Pro. However, the teaser's blue-tinted imagery has sparked speculation about a potential new dark blue colour option, possibly matching the iPhone 17 Pro.
Potential additional upgrades could include an 18-megapixel Center Stage camera and Apple's N1 networking chip with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support—though these remain unconfirmed.Apple is also expected to announce M5-equipped iPad Pro and Vision Pro models this week, alongside possible updates to Apple TV and HomePod mini, making it a significant product refresh week for the Cupertino giant.
