, watchOS 26, tvOS 26 and more. iPadOS 26, the next major software update for iPads, brings a powerful new windowing system, improved multitasking tools, and long-awaited system audio upgrades. One of the biggest features coming with iPadOS 26 is a revamped windowing system. Users will now be able to resize app windows more freely, move them around the screen, and open multiple windows at once. A new Exposé feature has also been added that will show all open windows at a glance, while a menu bar arrives on the iPad for the first time.Apple also confirmed that the Phone app will be available on iPad for the first time.
New audio settings come with iPadOS 26
In a long-requested update, Apple has added new audio settings that let users pick different microphones for different apps and websites. The Journal app is also coming to iPad, joining the newly introduced Apple Games app that works across devices. Users can now import and export Markdown files in Apple Notes, and a new Reed pen joins the system tools palette.The Files app also sees improvements, including a new List view and the ability to pin folders directly to the dock. iPadOS 26 also introduces a brand-new Preview app, along with support for Background Tasks—allowing apps to perform heavier processes in the background.
