The Andhra Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (APRERA) has launched a crackdown on unregistered real estate agents, cautioning the public against dealing with them and directing all such agents to register within 30 days or face strict penal action under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016.
APRERA Chairperson S. Suresh Kumar, while observing that the sector thrives on trust, says unregistered agents undermine consumer protection and market transparency.
“Registration is not an option — it is the law,” he asserts, urging buyers to verify agents through the official APRERA website.
Currently, only 248 agents are registered across the State, while thousands continue to operate informally. The APRERA has also flagged delays in project approvals, with 682 applications pending due to incomplete details from the promoters. Statutory notices have been issued, and members of the APRERA have been empowered to conduct hearings to speed up decisions.
Non-compliant agents risk heavy fines, business restrictions, and legal action. Industry bodies NAREDCO and CREDAI have been asked to ensure their members complete registration.
The APRERA Chairperson reiterates that compliance is essential to build a transparent, investor-friendly real estate ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh.
