The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has issued a fresh alert as a surface circulation has formed over the northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Myanmar coast, extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level. APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain said that under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to develop over the north Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours.
He warned that squally winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph are likely to lash coastal areas, and advised fishermen not to venture into the sea.
According to forecasts, heavy rains are expected tomorrow in Vizianagaram, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Visakhapatnam, and Anakapalli districts. Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, and NTR districts may witness moderate to heavy rainfall. Krishna, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, and Prakasam districts may receive light to moderate rains.
As of 5 p.m. Monday, 76.7 mm rainfall was recorded in Gurlu (Vizianagaram), 65.5 mm in Laveru (Srikakulam), 63.7 mm in Jeelammavalasa (Manyam), 61.5 mm in Pedanadipalli (Vizianagaram), and 60 mm in Narasingapalli (Anakapalli). The Godavari river at Bhadrachalam stood at 44.4 feet, while inflows and outflows at Dowleswaram Cotton Barrage were reported at 11.91 lakh cusecs, keeping the first danger warning in effect. At Prakasam Barrage on Krishna river, inflows and outflows were 3.42 lakh cusecs, close to first warning levels. The APSDMA has cautioned the public against crossing overflowing rivers, streams, and canals until floodwaters recede completely.
