Shillong: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), East Khasi Hills, in collaboration with the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), Meghalaya, distributed Emergency Responder Kits (ERKs) to trained Aapda Mitra volunteers, equipping them with essential equipment to effectively respond to emergencies.
under the Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme (YAMS) at U Soso Tham Auditorium, State Central Library premises here on Tuesday.Lakmen Rymbui, minister in-charge, revenue & disaster management department, education, reaffirmed the govt's commitment to strengthening disaster preparedness through such capacity-building initiatives. Rebecca M. Kurbah Kurbah, deputy commissioner & chairperson, DDMA, emphasized the importance of community-based disaster preparedness and the active participation of youth volunteers in enhancing resilience at the grassroots level.The programme also featured experience sharing by YAMS volunteer Kerda Khongwir, and a talk by Colonel Deepak Nambair, commanding officer 61 Battalion Meghalaya NCC, on partnership perspectives with various stakeholders in disaster preparedness.
