The university confirmed his passing on Wednesday night and quickly canceled its spring practice as the team tried to process the loss.

Reports say he suffered a medical episode after practice on April 7. He missed two sessions but returned to the field about a week later. Steven Miller was not just a coach. He had been part of the Arizona State football family for years. Before stepping into coaching, he played for the Sun Devils from 2015 to 2019. He was an offensive lineman who showed steady growth during his time with the team.He played in 49 games and started 35 of them, taking roles at both tackle and guard. After redshirting in 2015, he slowly became a regular presence on the field. One of his final moments as a player came in the 2019 Sun Bowl, where Arizona State secured a win over Florida State.
After his playing career ended, Miller moved into coaching. He worked as a graduate assistant at Louisiana Lafayette and later at the University of Florida. Still, Arizona State remained close to him. About three years ago, he returned to join the staff again, working under head coach Kenny Dillingham at Mountain America Stadium.Following his passing, the university shared a message on X. It read, “The Sun Devil Football family mourns the passing of Steven Miller.
We extend our thoughts to those who knew and loved him.” The words reflected how much he meant to the people around him.Head coach Kenny Dillingham also shared his thoughts. He said, “Praying for everyone who knew Steve. He had a joy for people that was unmatched and impacted so many lives. We lost a good one!”Those who knew Miller often speak about his energy and the way he connected with others. Whether as a player or a coach, he brought the same passion to the field every day.Right now, the focus is on remembering him and supporting his family, friends, and teammates. His journey, though short, left a strong mark on everyone he worked with.
