The Chhattisgarh Police on Friday (August 29, 2025) said it had recovered a ‘Naxal dump’ comprising more than 300 items, including arms and explosives, following a sustained security operation in the Abujhmad forests of Narayanpur district.
“In the joint anti-Naxal operation conducted by Narayanpur Police in the jungles and mountains of Abujhmad, more than 300 items including light machine guns, AK-47 (Trichy) rifle, INSAS, SLR, Sten gun, along with a large quantity of barrel grenade launcher cells, detonators and cardex were seized,” Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Robinson Guria told reporters.
Mr. Guria said the operation, launched on August 24, continued for five days. The Maoists managed to escape, leaving behind the dump.
“On August 24, a joint party of DRG Narayanpur, STF and ITBP [38th, 41st and 45th battalions] left for an anti-Naxal operation towards the Kutul Area Committee under Kohkameta police station limits of Narayanpur district,” he said.
During the search, Maoists opened fire in the jungles of Kasod, Kumuradi, Madora, Khodpar, and Gattakal in the Kutul Area Committee. “They fired indiscriminately with the intention of killing police personnel and looting arms. Fearing the counteraction taken in self-defence, they fled taking advantage of the dense forests, rivers, and streams,” Mr. Guria said.
According to the police, searches at the encounter site led to the recovery of a large cache of arms, ammunition, explosives and Naxal literature. The inventory of 24 categories of items also included hand grenades and country-made firearms.
Man killed in Bijapur, police suspect Maoist hand
In neighbouring Bijapur, police said they had received information that a 27-year-old grocery shop owner had been killed with a sharp-edged weapon by unidentified persons.
While the body is yet to be recovered, villagers told the police that the victim, Suresh Korsa, a resident of Mankeli village, had been abducted and later killed. The modus operandi has led the police to suspect a Maoist angle, a senior officer said.
