Rana registered a throw of 14.69m to win bronze in the F57 shot put event, while Kumar earned the bronze in the F54 discus throw event

Soman Rana and Pardeep Kumar, two para athletes from the Indian army, made history at the World Para Athletics Championships by winning medals for the national flag in the capital. Rana secured the silver medal in the F57 Shot Put event, while Kumar became the first Army athlete to win a medal at the event. Rana, who lost his right leg in a landmine blast in the Poonch sector in 2006, refused to be defeated by the setback and passionately pursued his love for shot put. Kumar, who lost his left leg during patrol duty in Srinagar in 2019 due to a landmine blast, took up the sport when he went to the ALC to get his prosthetic leg fitted. Rana registered a throw of 14.69m to win bronze in the shot put event, while Kumar earned the bronze in the F54 discus throw event.
