Arsenal are close to reaching a total agreement for the signing of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP, much to the delight of every Gooner.
As per reports from The Athletic, the Mikel Arteta-led Gunners are expected to pay a fixed fee of £55m (€63.5M) while add-ons are still being finalised and could reach up to £8.6M (€10m).
It is understood that there was a breakthrough in negotiations when Gyokeres’ agent agreed to waive a commission he was due from the deal.
This lowered the asking price for Arsenal on the guaranteed money without Sporting receiving less than they wanted.
Bringing in a striker has been a primary focus for Arsenal in this transfer window – they have explored conditions for a number of players, including RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
Manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly eager to finalize the signing quickly, hoping to have the striker in place before the Gunners begin pre-season training.
Gyokeres has emerged as one of Europe’s most coveted forwards following a remarkable 2024–25 season in which he scored 54 goals in 52 appearances, leading Sporting to a domestic double, winning both the Portuguese League and the Cup.
Since joining Sporting from Coventry City in 2023, the Swede has netted an astonishing 97 goals in 102 games, playing a central role in back-to-back Primeira Liga title wins in 2023–24 and 2024–25.
The 27-year-old, who has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League giants Arsenal, was expected to join Sporting’s training camp in Portugal’s Algarve region on July 12, following an extended break. However, Gyokeres did not show up, prompting disciplinary action from the club.
Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas issued a stern warning to Gyokeres, stating the Swedish international will face a fine and be required to apologise to his teammates after failing to report on time for pre-season training.
“We’re calm. Everything will be resolved with the closing of the market, a heavy fine, and an apology to the group," said Varandas.
