Noni Madueke is expected to undergo his Arsenal medical on Monday as he closes in on a £52 million transfer from Chelsea.
According to Sky Sports, the England international has agreed to personal terms on a five-year contract. The Gunners will pay an initial fee of £48 million, with a further £4 million in performance-related add-ons.
An official announcement from Arsenal is anticipated soon, as the club accelerates its summer recruitment drive.
Struggling with injuries and lacking squad depth in recent campaigns, Mikel Arteta appears determined to bolster his options across the pitch. The signing of Madueke would provide valuable backup on the right wing, offering support and much-needed rest for Bukayo Saka.
Given Madueke’s pace, directness, and attacking flair, Arsenal fans will hope he can help reduce the load on Saka, who has carried a heavy burden in recent seasons.
While Arsenal continue their search for a left-sided forward, Madueke has primarily operated on the right. During the 2024/25 season, he made 33 appearances for Chelsea on the right flank, contributing to the team’s attacking efforts, though he registered no goals or assists in seven outings on the left.
The Gunners have also explored other forward options, including Real Madrid’s Rodrygo. With Saka firmly established on the right and teenage talent Ethan Nwaneri emerging, the addition of Madueke intensifies the competition for wide attacking roles.
Transfer Plans Beyond Madueke
Manager Mikel Arteta remains active in the market beyond Madueke’s arrival. Arsenal continue to pursue Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi to reinforce the midfield, while reports suggest that Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres and Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze are also on the club’s radar.
Madueke’s Journey Through Europe
Madueke’s football journey began at age nine when he joined the Crystal Palace academy. After three years, he moved to Tottenham Hotspur’s youth setup in 2014. In June 2018, at just 16 years old, he made a bold decision to join Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, turning down an offer from Manchester United.
His breakout came in the 2020–21 season, when he scored seven goals and provided eight assists in the Eredivisie, playing a key role in PSV’s victory in the Johan Cruyff Shield in 2021.
In January 2023, Madueke returned to England, signing a seven-and-a-half-year contract with Chelsea in a £28.5 million deal. He made his debut for the Blues in February 2023 against Crystal Palace and netted his first goal for the club in May that year—ironically, against his soon-to-be club, Arsenal.
Madueke’s international profile has also risen, earning a senior England call-up in August 2024 for UEFA Nations League fixtures.
