Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh governor KT Parnaik on Thursday lauded Gaon Burahs and Gaon Buris (village heads) for facilitating adult education and stressed that education was the most powerful tool for transforming villages.
“An educated child is an empowered citizen. When a child drops out, the entire community loses a part of its future,” the governor said.Interacting with a delegation of village heads from Ziro at the Raj Bhavan, Parnaik called them ‘torchbearers of change’ and guardians of people’s welfare at the grassroots level. “Development begins not in offices, but in villages, with committed leaders who turn vision into action,” Parnaik said.Expressing concern over drug abuse, the governor termed it a “social poison”. “No village can progress when its youth fall prey to addiction. We must identify vulnerable youth and guide them towards sports, skill training and community activities,” he said. The delegation, comprising 23 village heads from Dutta, Mudang Tage and Bamin villages, was led by political interpreter Yachang Tacho.
