Taking exception to the State government allowing Vidhana Soudha’s banquet hall to be used for holding a function by a private organisation, Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Arvind Bellad has said that it would set a bad precedent.

In a press release issued here, Mr. Bellad has said that the banquet hall of Vidhana Soudha had a certain dignity and prestige, and the government had undermined it by allowing a private organisation to hold a programme in it.

Mr. Bellad has referred to the government permitting the Bangalore Lawyers’ Association and Ravivarmakumar Associates to organise a felicitation programme marking 50 years of professional service of former Advocate General Prof. Ravivarmakumar at the banquet hall, stating that the hall was meant only for government functions.

“The government may have permitted the function at the banquet hall under pressure, but it would set a bad precedent. And in future, Ministers, senior government officials and wealthy individuals may also demand the banquet hall for private birthday parties and wedding anniversaries of their family members,” he has said, urging the government to reserve the hall for only government functions and not to succumb to any pressure here onwards.
