Ashok accuses Congress of distracting from government failures

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashok has alleged that the Congress government raised the issue of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh only to hide its failures in the last two-and-a-half years.

Mr. Ashok addressed a press conference in Hassan after visiting Hasanamba temple on Monday. The State government had failed on all fronts. There had been no development since the party came to power, he said.

“We have been demanding that the government come out with a White Paper on the amount they spent on development in comparison with what the BJP spent during its earlier tenure. The facts alone will reveal the truth,” he said.

Commenting on the Social and Educational Survey, Mr. Ashok said the government had failed to conduct it properly and that there had been no progress in many districts. “The Chief Minister said he would complete the survey within 15 days; however, he has now extended the deadline further,” he remarked.

During the survey of his family, the BJP leader indicated that he responded only to questions related to caste and religion, stating that there was no need for the remaining questions.

Many industrialists in Bengaluru, he said, commented on the poor condition of city’s roads. Due to the failure of the ruling government many investors had moved to neighbouring states. The government had no money left to spend for development projects.

Further, he said that the issue of the RSS had been raised only to conceal failures. The organisation had completed 100 years. “When there is no restriction on holding namaaz on roads, blocking the traffic, why should only RSS activities be restricted,” he asked.

BJP legislators Cement Manju, Bhageerathi Murulya, BJP district president Siddesh Nagendra and others were present at the press conference.
