Guwahati: Senior gynaecologist Dr Kantheswar Bordoloi from Morigaon district, who recently made headlines for allegedly not adhering to safety protocols while performing 21 C-sections in just 10 hours, was among three persons killed in a road accident near Nellie, while travelling in an SUV from Jagiroad in Morigaon to nearby Nagaon district.The accident, which took place on NH-27, occurred early on Tuesday morning at around 3:30 am. The two other deceased, Manas Mahanta and Asik Hussain, were laboratory technicians who were working at a private hospital.Two other healthcare professionals, who were also there in the vehicle and sustained injuries, are reportedly out of danger, with one of them being released in the evening. Bordoloi, a popular gynaecologist, was associated with Morigaon district civil hospital.Such was the ferocity of the accident that metal cutters had to be used to take out the passengers from the car.Police, along with district administration, PWD and DTO office, are currently investigating the incident. While choosing not divulge details about the incident as one of the survivors is still undergoing treatment, Morigaon SP Prakash Sonowal said, “They were heading towards Nagaon, but their exact destination is not yet known.”

He further said, “Tomorrow (Wednesday) we will take the statement of one of the injured individuals, who has been discharged from the hospital.”According to a senior police official, preliminary investigation has revealed that the SUV lost control and hit a divider on the highway, leading to severe damages on the front and upper side of the vehicle.“The vehicle was speeding. It lost control and hit the divider, before overturning and crossing over to the other side of the road.

There was no collision with any other vehicle,” the official said.According to unconfirmed reports, the five individuals had travelled to Zubeen Garg’s cremation site at Kamarkuchi, near Sonapur, in neighbouring Kamrup (Metropolitan) district and then were going to drop one them home when the accident took place.
