The Assam government has announced two days of ‘special casual leave’ for its employees in November, allowing them to spend time with their parents and parents-in-law. This initiative, part of the ‘Matri Pitri Vandana’ scheme, can be availed on November 14 and November 15 through a dedicated portal, as announced via an official notification.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma first introduced this scheme during his Independence Day speech in 2021, shortly after taking office.

The notification stated, “The Governor of Assam is pleased to allow State Government employees to avail Special Casual Leave under Matri Pitri Vandana Scheme on 14th November 2025 (Friday) and 15th November 2025 (Saturday)."

Additionally, the notification mentioned that the leave could be extended to include November 16 (Sunday), providing employees with a long weekend to spend with their family.

Assam CM Inaugurates Community Kitchen

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a community kitchen in Sonitpur district. This kitchen will cater to the mid-day meals of 25,000 children.

Situated in Durrung Tea Estate, the new kitchen will serve students from schools located in the Tezpur, Rongapara, and Barchala assembly constituencies.

Sarma stated that the government will allocate Rs 25 crore for the project, and ISKCON will also construct a temple at the location.

The funding for the mid-day meals will be split, with the state government contributing 60 per cent and the Akshaya Patra Foundation covering the remaining 40 per cent.

The community kitchen, spanning 1,718 sq metres, will include staff quarters, a training centre, a multipurpose hall, and utility and security blocks.

The CM reminisced about his visit to the ISKCON temple in Bengaluru in 2009, during his tenure as Education Minister, and expressed his admiration for the temple’s kitchen and food supply system.
