The Thodupuzha police on Sunday registered a case against five unidentified persons on charge of assault of and attempt to murder YouTuber Shajan Scaria. According to the police, the incident occurred around 6.40 p.m. at Mangattukavala, near Thodupuzha, in Idukki, on Saturday.
According to the police’s First Information Report (FIR), the accused blocked the vehicle in which Mr. Scaria was travelling, manhandled him, and attempted to murder him. The FIR stated that if the gang’s attempt to strangle the YouTuber’s neck had not been thwarted, it would have resulted in the death of the person. The FIR further said that it was a planned attempt. After the incident, the police rushed him to a private hospital at Thodupuzha. He sustained minor injuries in the alleged attack and is under treatment in the hospital. Mr. Scaria owns the YouTube channel named Marunadan Malayali.
According to the police, the investigation into the incident has begun and the accused are absconding. The police slapped Sections 189(2), 190, 191(1), 191(2), 191(3), 115(2), 351(2), 126(2), 110 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, on the accused.
