JAIPUR: A crowd attacked a head constable of the city police who single-handedly fended off attackers attempting to free a detained suspect in a crowded area of Vidhyadhar Nagar on Sunday afternoon.Vidhyadhar Nagar SHO Rakesh Khaliya said head constable Shehzad Ali of Shyam Nagar went to Vidhyadhar Nagar bus stand and took into custody a wanted suspect, Gaurav Rai, involved in a case related to cheating, and was heading back along with two others. As the team passed through Vidhyadhar Nagar, two men on a motorcycle intercepted the police vehicle. The duo, allegedly associates of the suspect, launched a violent attack on the head constable in an attempt to free the suspect.

While his associates remained in the car with the accused, Ali stepped out to confront the attackers alone.Ali resisted the assault for nearly 20 minutesDespite being outnumbered, Ali resisted the assault for nearly 20 minutes. His uniform was torn in the scuffle. The attackers also vandalised the police vehicle, smashing its windows with helmets and bare hands.Shockingly, the crowd that gathered at the scene chose to film the incident rather than intervene.

Khaliya said both the accused seen in the video were arrested. The situation was brought under control after a team from Vidhyadhar Nagar police station arrived and detained Vijay and Rahul Rai.An official said Ali’s bravery stopped any untoward situation.
