Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivers his Independence Day address from the Red Fort.
On Friday, delivering the address on the 79th Independence Day of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke a few records. Speaking for 103 minutes, it was PM Modi’s longest Independence Day speech, going past the 98-minute address he had delivered last year.

He had first broken the record in 2015 with an 88-minute speech in 2015. In 1947, former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had delivered a speech of 72 minutes.
The Prime Minister also broke Indira Gandhi’s record by delivering 12 consecutive speeches from the ramparts of Red Fort to stand next only to Jawaharlal Nehru who delivered 17 Independence Day addresses in a row.
