Karnataka recorded the highest ever power generation from renewable sources in a day at 143 million units (MU) on Monday. The feat was achieved because of good rainfall received Statewide and wind generation, according to the Energy Department.
On Monday, 80% of the grid electricity came from renewable sources. On average, 75% of total power in the grid is produced through green sources. The State can expect the average to reach 85% as it is witnessing good rainfall and strong winds.
“Electricity generation from renewable energy sources has increased significantly. About 75–85% of the demand is currently being met through these sources. Wind power generation has grown substantially, with an average of 54 million units being generated daily,” the Energy Department said in a release.
According to the department, more than 50 MU of electricity have been generated daily from wind since the onset of the monsoon. Currently, 65.80 MU are being produced, reducing the dependence on conventional energy sources such as thermal generation. At present, thermal sources are contributing only 15 - 25% of the State’s energy generation.
