Aurad MLA and BJP leader Prabhu Chauhan has said that a recent police complaint filed against his son Prateek Chauhan is part of a political conspiracy aimed at tarnishing his image.
He named the former Union Minister and fellow BJP leader Bhagwant Khuba as the mastermind behind the campaign against him.
The complaint, filed by a woman from Maharashtra, accused Prateek Chauhan of sexual assault on the promise of marriage.
The complainant, who claimed to have been engaged to Prateek Chauhan for the past two years, earlier approached the Karnataka State Commission for Women. Following the commission’s advice, she formally lodged a police complaint with Bidar Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gunti, seeking action.
According to the woman’s account, engagement between them was arranged with the consent of the two families. She said that after the engagement, Prateek Chauhan took her to various locations in Maharashtra and engaged in a physical relationship under the promise of marriage. She further stated that Prateek Chauhan’s family recently withdrew from marriage negotiations and even assaulted her family members when they visited their house for clarification.
In response to the allegations, Mr. Prabhu Chauhan, addressing the media on Sunday, refuted all the charges.
“The girl was constantly chatting with and video calling others after her engagement with my son. I treated her like my own daughter and advised her accordingly. My son clearly told me he did not wish to proceed with the marriage. He has done nothing wrong,” he said.
The legislator went on to make a serious political allegation claiming that “a gang led by Bhagwant Khuba has been conspiring against him [Mr. Chauhan] since 2014.”
“The complaint by the woman against my son is the latest ploy to damage my reputation. They misled the girl and pressured her to file the complaint. My son is just a pretext, as I am their real target,” he said and added that his son is not involved in any wrongdoing.
