Australia wicketkeeper Josh Inglis and spinner Adam Zampa will miss out on the series opener against India in the first ODI, set to be played in Perth on Sunday. While Inglis has been ruled out due to an injury, Zampa will miss the match due to family reasons, Cricket Australia (CA) informed on Tuesday.
As per the CA release, Inglis is yet to fully recover from a calf strain that saw him miss Australia’s T20 tour of New Zealand earlier this month.
Australia have called up Josh Philippe as Inglis’ replacement for the first One Day after Alex Carey was released from the squad for the first ODI to play in South Australia’s round two Sheffield Shield match against Queensland as part of his build-up to the Ashes. Philippe, who joined the T20 squad in NZ as Glenn Maxwell’s replacement when he went home with a fractured wrist, is set to play his first one-day international since Australia’s tour of West Indies in 2021.

Cricket Australia said Carey will rejoin the squad for the second ODI in Adelaide on October 23, while Inglis is hoping to be fit to play the third match of the series at Sydney Cricket Ground. Meanwhile, Zampa is also expected to link up with the squad in Adelaide ahead of the second ODI against India on October 23.
The much-hyped series will also witness the return of the star Indian duo Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma after their Test retirement. Both Rohit and Virat, who have retired from Tests and T20Is, will return to competitive cricket after a break of nearly five months after the Indian Premier League. The first batch of Indian players who are part of the ODI series will reportedly fly out to Perth on October 15th via Singapore.
