An 18-year-old man in Australia died after he suffered multiple strokes and internal bleeding, resulting from an injury from a backflip, multiple media reports said.
The deceased was identified as Sonny Blundell, who did the backflip on June 24, while he was celebrating moving into a new house with his girlfriend after he shifted base from the Central Coast in New South Wales to the Gold Coast in Queensland.
The man died on June 30, after slipping into a coma and undergoing brain surgery.
According to the reports, Sonny had facetimed his sister before the incident. She recalled how her brother was happy moving into a new house and starting a new life after he was offered a well-paying job in the area.
As Sonny did the backflip, he hit his head on the ground in the lounge room. Subsequently, he went to bed with a headache, it was known.
He woke up and went to the washroom, where he reportedly vomited and passed out.
He was found unresponsive the following morning by his friend.
As he was taken to a hospital, Sonny suffered multiple strokes and a brain bleed. He was then taken for surgery.
According to a social media post by his sister, Sonny’s first 24 hours at the hospital remained the most crucial.
“We nearly lost him after having multiple strokes and another bleed, which led to him needing a drain in his brain," she wrote.
“There is major uncertainty that Sonny will or will not pull through. He’s working his hardest as there could be recovery and rehabilitation," she added in the post before her brother’s death.
