Auto driver stabbed by drunk man while helping police

An autorickshaw driver who tried to help the police overpower a drunk man who was creating a nuisance on the road early on Sunday, was stabbed with a knife by the man.

Ram Kumar, a resident of Kammanahalli, was plying his autorickshaw on Saturday night. Around 1 a.m., while he was near Hennur junction, he saw a Hoysala police patrol vehicle and two personnel trying to catch a drunk man who was creating a nuisance.

Ram Kumar volunteered and tried to catch and overpower the man and in the melee, was stabbed in the abdomen with a knife.

Later, the police and other passers-by overpowered and detained the drunk man. He has been identified as Vishnu, a software engineer. He was also injured in the melee and shifted to a private hospital along with Ram Kumar. Both are being treated and are said to be out of danger.
