RAIPUR: Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha celebrations on May 28, Chhattisgarh state waqf board chairman Salim Raj has appealed to Muslims across the state not to perform animal sacrifice in open or public places and to refrain from sharing photos or videos of the ritual on social media to maintain communal harmony. In a statement issued on Monday, Salim Raj said Eid-ul-Azha namaz would be offered across mosques and eidgahs in the state between 6am and 11am on Thursday, following which the ritual of qurbani would continue till sunset on May 30. The waqf board chief urged people not to carry out sacrifice at public places or in the open and advised against sacrificing prohibited animals. He also appealed to people not to let blood flow into drains and instead scientifically dispose of waste and remains by burying them in pits while ensuring cleanliness after the ritual.Raj further asked worshippers not to offer namaz on roads and suggested arranging prayers in multiple shifts if gatherings become too large, as done in previous years.Appealing for sensitivity towards all communities, he said Islam, the Quran and Hadith teach respect for all faiths, brotherhood and peaceful coexistence.“People living in a society must respect the Constitution and the faith of those around them. Open sacrifice and circulation of videos on social media often hurt sentiments and disturb communal harmony,” he said. The appeal comes as authorities across several states remain on alert during Bakrid celebrations to ensure communal peace and prevent provocative social media content from triggering tensions
