'Awards are a crazy thing,' Says Vishal’s bold take on the film award culture

Tamil actor Vishal, known for his intense performances in ‘Thupparivaalan,’ ‘Irumbu Thirai,’ and ‘Sandakozhi,’ has never hesitated to speak his mind. The actor recently made headlines with his unfiltered remarks on the film industry’s award culture, questioning its credibility and fairness.

Vishal’s bold take on awards

In a candid episode of his podcast Yours Frankly Vishal, the actor voiced his strong disapproval of the current award system. He criticized how a small panel decides who gets honored, ignoring the opinion of millions. "I don't believe in awards. Awards are a crazy thing. How can four people sit around and decide the favorite actor, favorite supporting actor, and favorite movie for seven crore people?" he said. He added, "Are these four people the bosses of everyone? I'm saying this even about the National Awards.

That is important."Calling the process meaningless, he continued, "These awards are like gathering eight different people and deciding who the Best Actor is. I don't believe in awards; it's a bulls**t thing." Vishal further clarified that his statements were not out of bitterness but conviction. “I've even told organizers that if I get an award, I'll throw it in the garbage, or if it's made of gold, I'll sell it and donate the money to charity,” he said.

“I ask them not to give me any awards and instead give them to someone truly deserving.” He later clarified he acknowledged other who like to recognition.

Personal life update

Vishal’s personal life is also in a happy phase. The ‘Thupparivaalan’ actor is set to marry actress Sai Dhanshika soon. The couple, who got engaged in August 2025, are reportedly preparing for their wedding, marking one of Kollywood’s most talked-about unions.

On the work front

Vishal is now gearing up for his upcoming film ‘Magudam,’ a gangster action drama where he reportedly plays multiple roles. Recently also release the new poster of the movie on the his X. He also share he going to make his dictorial debut with this movie, Earilar Ravi Arasu was announced as the director of the movie. The movie also stars Dushara Vijayan as the female lead.
