The ICAR–Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (IISWC) Research Centre in Udhagamandalam organised an awareness campaign on PM-Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, the Natural Farming Mission, and the Pulses Mission on Saturday at Periyar Nagar village.
“The event was conducted as part of the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) outreach programme, reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable agricultural development in the hill regions. The programme witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 40 farmers, including 25 women, representing the villages of Periyar Nagar, Muthuswamy Nagar and Jeeva Nagar,” a press release said.
Somasundaram Jayaraman, Head of the research centre in Udhagamandalam, highlighted the benefits of the flagship initiatives, emphasising on how they aim to empower farmers, enhance soil health, and promote climate-resilient, sustainable agriculture in hilly ecosystems. He also underscored the importance of adopting natural farming practices for improving soil fertility and long-term productivity, the release added.
