Awareness programmes mark ‘World No Tobacco Day’

NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha has asked the people to keep away from tobacco products and maintain good health.

People addicted to smoking and chewing tobacco products are vulnerable to cancer, lung infection and other respiratory diseases, Mr. Lakshmisha said and asked the patients to undergo counselling.

The Collector, along with District Revenue Officer M. Lakshmi Narasimham, District Medical and Health Officer Dr. M. Suhasini and NGO representatives released posters on ‘World No Tobacco Day’ on Saturday.

The Collector administered a pledge against using tobacco to participants and asked the youth to enlighten the people on the ill-effects of using tobacco products.

The government is conducting awareness programmes against smoking and chewing gutkha and other tobacco products in colleges, he said.

Signature campaign

At a separate programme, the members of Bezawada Bar Association (BBA), in association with an NGO, Nava Jeevan Bala Bhavan, organised a signature campaign against the use of tobacco at the court complex, said BBA president A.K. Basha.
