The temple town of Ayodhya is gearing up for the grand “dhawajarohan" (flag hoisting) ceremony at Ram Janmabhoomi temple, scheduled to take place on November 25.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist a saffron flag atop the 161-foot-high main spire of the temple, marking a historic first when all seven spires of the temple will be adorned with saffron flags, officials of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust said on Tuesday.

The ceremony will be performed jointly by PM Modi and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat, in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The event coincides with Vivah Panchami, the day when the divine wedding of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita is celebrated across Ayodhya, news agency PTI reported.

The special saffron flag — 22 feet by 11 feet — is made of durable parachute fabric and silk threads and will be mounted on a 42-foot pole at the 161-foot spire using a 360-degree rotating mechanism, sources said. The triangular flag features symbols such as the Sun, ‘Om’, and the Kovidar tree.

Extensive Preparations Underway

Meanwhile, extensive preparations are underway for the event, with senior state officials and members of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust stationed in Ayodhya. Officials said that the prime minister’s and the chief minister’s offices are tracking every development in real time.

The event will be broadcast live across major television channels and digital platforms, with a 200-foot-wide LED screen installed inside the Ram Janmabhoomi complex and over 30 large screens placed across the city for public viewing.

To accommodate guests, 1,600 rooms have been booked in Ayodhya and nearby facilities, including Karsevakpuram, Ramsevakpuram, and Teerth Kshetra Puram, where bedding and blankets have been arranged considering the winter chill.

Temple Trust Secretary Champat Rai said around 6,000 invited guests will attend the event. Entry to the temple complex will open at 8 AM and close by 9 AM, while the ceremony will conclude by 2 PM, followed by line-wise darshan for attendees. Regular darshan will remain suspended for other devotees on that day.

Rai said that due to the ongoing temple construction and reduced space in the premises, the number of invitees for the event has been kept limited, with priority given to guests from eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The holy city is being decorated with saffron flags, floral garlands, and vibrant lighting, while the Tourism and Culture Department will host Ram Katha recitations, devotional music, and classical and folk performances by renowned artists between November 21 and 25.

The Municipal Corporation is conducting a beautification drive, including road repairs, repainting ghats, and planting trees. Processions of Lord Ram’s wedding (Ram Barat) will also be held at multiple locations after 4 PM on November 25.

Temple Trust officials said the ceremony will primarily focus on devotees from Eastern Uttar Pradesh, given space constraints due to ongoing temple construction.
