Denying allegations that crores of rupees donated at Ayodhya’s Ram Temple had gone missing, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust on Saturday urged Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to order an SIT probe into the matter.
The Trust said the investigation would establish the facts and counter what it called misinformation surrounding the issue.
Allegations Of Donation Theft
The request by the Trust comes amid a political storm triggered by allegations from Samajwadi Party leaders that crores of rupees donated by devotees to the temple had gone missing. The trust has strongly denied any financial irregularities, maintaining that ongoing audits have not revealed any discrepancies.
Trust Rejects Irregularity Claims
Responding to the allegations, the Trust’s General Secretary Champat Rai had earlier said, “The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra undergoes internal audits from time to time. Representatives of the trust and the State Bank of India are involved in this exercise. The audit process lasts for several days. The same work is being carried out these days. Nothing noteworthy has come to light yet."
Opposition Demands Independent Probe
The matter intensified after Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav demanded an independent inquiry into reports claiming that donations offered at the temple were missing. Former SP MLA Pawan Pandey also alleged that between Rs 5 crore and Rs 7.5 crore had been stolen from donation boxes and called for a thorough investigation.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Minister Surya Pratap Shahi on Friday said the trust had already initiated an inquiry and assured that any irregularity, if found, would be investigated. He added that the state government would consider extending assistance if requested by the trust.
The trust oversees the administration and finances of the Ram Temple and says donations are counted and audited through established procedures involving bank officials, trust representatives and CCTV monitoring.
