Guwahati: In keeping with their theme of raising awareness against violence towards women and girls, the Azad Hind Durga Puja Committee has announced a special initiative to distribute clothes among underprivileged children this year.Committee members have said the initiative is beyond symbolism and takes the message of commission directly to the community. “We wanted our Puja not just to highlight the issue through decoration but also to bring some relief to those in need. By distributing clothes to poor children, we hope to remind people that real change begins with small acts of care,” said Biswajit Paul, the general secretary of the committee. The distribution will take place during the Puja celebrations, with volunteers from the committee reaching as many distressed families as possible. According to the members, this step is closely tied to their social theme, underlining the responsibility of society to create safer and more inclusive spaces for women and children alike. “We will be reaching out to more than 500 families, and we want to encourage more community groups to look beyond celebrations and contribute to social causes that directly impact vulnerable sections of society,” Paul said.As the committee steps into its 73rd year of Durga Puja celebration, Paul highlighted that the Azad Hind Durga Puja committee wants this year’s puja memorable not only for its artistic pandal but also for its human touch.
