India extended their unbeaten run with a 110–100 victory over Hong Kong China on Sunday, finishing at the top of Group D in the Badminton Asia Junior Mixed Team Championships.

Both teams had already secured places in the knockout stage before their group-stage encounter, but India’s win ensures they move into the quarterfinals as group leaders.

Rujula Ramu continued her impressive form, giving India an early lead by defeating IP Sum Yau 11–8 in the opening match. The world No. 6 boys’ doubles pair of Bhargav Ram Arigela and Viswa Tej Gobburu then built on that momentum, extending the lead to 22–13 with a dominant performance against Cheung Sai Shing and Deng Chi Fai.

Hong Kong China narrowed the gap thanks to Lam Ka To, who contributed 13 points to reduce India’s lead. However, Rounak Chouhan quickly responded, pushing India’s score to 33 and regaining control.

With five matches completed and just six points separating the two teams at 55–49, junior world No. 1 Tanvi Sharma stepped up. In the second girls’ singles match, she outclassed Liu Hoi Kiu Anna to widen India’s lead to 66–54, putting the team firmly back in control.

India Holds Off Late Surge

Although the remaining four matches were closely contested, India maintained their edge throughout, ultimately securing the win and the top spot in the group. They now face Japan in the quarterfinals on Monday.

Japan finished second in Group A, behind Thailand, setting up an exciting knockout encounter between two strong sides.

India’s best performance in the mixed team event came in 2011, when they secured a bronze medal. Last year, they narrowly missed a podium finish after a 2–3 loss to Malaysia in the quarterfinals. With Sunday’s victory, the Indian contingent will look to go at least one step further this time.
