Bali Yatra to highlight Odia Asmita by focusing on state’s literary legacy

Cuttack: This year’s Bali Yatra in Cuttack will highlight Odia Asmita through a special theme — “Ama Odisha, Ama Bhasa Sahitya” (our Odisha, our language and literature). The dedicated pavilion, being set up on the banks of the Mahanadi river at the lower Baliyatra ground, will showcase the linguistic and literary heritage of the state in a unique and visually captivating manner. The special pavilion will highlight the rich history, evolution and global recognition of the Odia language while showcasing the contributions of eminent writers and poets who have defined Odisha’s literary legacy.“This year’s Bali Yatra (which will be held next month) is not only a celebration of our maritime heritage but also a heartfelt tribute to our language and literature. The ‘Ama Odisha, Ama Bhasa Sahitya’ pavilion will serve as a proud reminder of the writers, poets and thinkers who shaped our cultural identity,” Shibo Toppo, additional district magistrate (Cuttack), said.“Over 100 writers, linguists, poets and researchers from across the state are expected to participate in discussions, poetry recitations and literary sessions throughout the week-long fair,” Toppo added. The district administration is collaborating with literary organizations, universities and cultural bodies to ensure active participation from students, researchers and young writers. The pavilion itself is turning into a visual treat. The entry gate has been artistically designed in the shape of a giant bookshelf, symbolizing the treasure of Odia literature.

Inside, visitors will be greeted with giant book installations, murals of literary icons and displays of rare Odia manuscripts, alphabets and historical scripts. Several structures and trees around the area have been beautifully decorated with artistic depictions of Odia letters and verses. To add to the charm, special illumination has been done across the pavilion, transforming it into a glowing symbol of linguistic pride after sunset. Each element of design from light arrangements to the decor reflects the deep connection between Odisha’s maritime glory and its cultural and literary identity. With its vibrant fusion of heritage, art, and intellect, the pavilion is expected to become one of the most visited and talked-about attractions at this year’s Bali Yatra in Cuttack.
