RAIPUR: Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel at Durg railway station, Chhattisgarh, apprehended an absconding Bangladeshi national on Thursday night, who was wanted by the Navi Mumbai Police under the Passport and Foreigners Acts.The arrested individual, identified as Azmir Alamin Sheikh (19), was travelling on the Kurla Express (Train No. 18029). Sheikh is a resident of Boorhi Khali village in the Narail district of Bangladesh. The RPF Post Durg received information from the Security Control Room in Raipur on 7 November 2025 that an accused in a case registered at the Rabale Police Station in Navi Mumbai was on board the train. The case, CR No.

245/25, was registered under sections 3(a) and 6(a) of the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920, and sections 14(a) and 14(b) of the Foreigners Act, 1946.Acting on the input, a joint team led by the RPF Post in-charge, Durg, along with Assistant Sub-Inspector K Verma, RPF staff, and Government Railway Police (GRP) officers, checked the train when it arrived on platform number 5 at 6:12 pm. The accused was found sitting in a sleeper coach.

Sheikh was detained and taken to the GRP outpost in Durg. During questioning, he did not produce any identity documents. The RPF informed the concerned police station in Mumbai about the apprehension. A team from the Mumbai Police arrived in Durg on 8 November 2025 after travelling via Raipur airport. Following the necessary paperwork, the RPF handed over Sheikh to the Mumbai Police Sub-Inspector and staff for further legal proceedings.It was revealed that a competent court in Mumbai had already passed an order on 27 October 2025 for the repatriation of the Bangladeshi national to his home country.
