Basava Samskriti Abhiyan organised by the Lingayat Mathadhipathigala Okkoota to mark the first anniversary of declaring 12th century social reformer Basavanna as cultural icon of the State by the government will enter Yadgir district on Thursday.
The socio-religious and cultural campaign is being held across the State till Friday.
Briefing presspersons in Yadgir on Monday, honorary president of the District Sahamatha Vedike and Peethadhipathi of Khasa Mutt in Gurmitkal Shanta Veera Guru Murugharajendra Mahaswamiji said that the abhiyan chariot will tour Yadgir to spread the thoughts of Basavanna and other Sharanas of the 12th century.
A series of programmes are being held to mark the campaign and on Thursday, the morning session will begin with a discussion with students at Patil Convention Hall, where Chairman of Lingayat Mathadhipathigala Okkoota and Nadoja award winner Basavalinga Pattaddevaru will preside.
Jagadguru Tontadarya Siddarama Mahaswamiji of Tontadarya Mutt, Gadag, Panditaradhya Shivacharya Swamiji of Sanehalli, Guru Mahantaswamiji of Vijaya Mahanteshwar Mutt of Chittaragi and seers of various other mutts will be present.
“Founder of Scientific Research Centre Hulikal Nataraj will deliver a special lecture and answer the questions of students. Founder of Basavamarg Prathisthan Vishwaradhya Satyampet will share his views on Vachanas and the principles of the Sharanas,” he said.
Minister for Small Scale Industries and Public Enterprises Sharanabasappa Darshanapur will inaugurate the abhiyan and join a walk for harmony at Subhas Circle.
Parliamentarians G. Kumar Naik and Radhakrishna Doddamani, MLAs Channareddy Patil Tunnur, Sharanagouda Kandkur, Raja Venugopal Naik, CMC Chairperson Lalita Anpur, Deputy Commissioner Harshal Bhoyar, Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar and others will participate.
Seminars, interactions and discussions and also a stage drama will be organised, he said.
District president of Sahamatha Vedike Bhimanna Meti, Shivaraj Kalkeri, Somashekhar Mannur, Gundappa Kalaburagi, Avinash Jagannath, Vishwanathreddy Gondedagi, Shafi Tunnur, Basavaraj Rajapur and others were present.
