Garbage collectors coming late, in many cases after residents have left for work, has been a significant contributing factor to black spots. To rectify this, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has effectively advanced the garbage collection by an hour henceforth.
The mustering (attendance record) time of auto-tipper vehicles that collect solid waste was 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. Only after this, the vehicles go on their prescribed routes to collect garbage door-to-door. The time now has been revised to between 5.30 a.m. and 6.30 a.m.
“By advancing it by an hour, steps have been taken to make waste collection compatible with the daily routine of the people. This change will not only facilitate the residents to give their waste before leaving for work, but will also prevent the public from dumping waste everywhere and creating black spots,” said Karee Gowda, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Ltd (BSWML).
