More than a month ago, Kevin Love, a 36-year-old power forward and center for the Miami Heat, lost his father, Stan Love. Stan Love was a former power forward at the Los Angeles Lakers and the brother of The Beach Boys singer Mike Love. And now, more than a month later, Kevin Love lost another family member and a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Brian Wilson.

NBA champion Kevin Love was related to the two-time Grammy Award winner Brian Wilson
Olympic Gold Medalist Kevin Love was close to the Songwriters Hall of Famer Brian Wilson because Kevin’s father, Stan Love, was Wilson’s caretaker. The Los Angeles Times reported, “Mike Love was a founding member of the Beach Boys, and Stan Love became an essential adjunct to the band, serving as a human shield for his cousin, Brian Wilson, throughout the turbulent late 1970s and early 80s.”The Parade reported Stan Love, Kevin’s father was the younger brother of the Beach Boys founder Mike Love and was Brian Wilson’s first cousin once removed.

Kevin Love shared a long, sweet, trip-down-the-memory-lane eulogy for Kennedy Center Honors recipient Brian Wilson. Love knew Wilson through his father, Stan Love. Stan Love was Wilson’s employed bodyguard, caretaker, trainer, and assistant. The two-time All-NBA Second Team wrote in his Instagram post,“The Love family is deeply saddened by the loss of Brian Wilson. A musical and creative genius. He was revolutionary in his songwriting and arranging. Growing up around my uncle Mike and The Beach Boys I absorbed much of their influence within Rock & Roll.
My Dad and Brian had a special relationship. Brian often staying with my parents when they lived in Emerald Bay. For a period of time my Dad was both his caretaker and bodyguard - particularly during a period when Brian was struggling with mental health and substance abuse.Dad would tell stories of getting him out of the house and onto the basketball court at the local YMCA. I have fond memories of the countless original slides and photos of Brian that my family would often share with us - (you can see them hooping together in the 2nd photo).

I personally admire Brian’s true creative resilience despite mental health challenges. Beauty amid turmoil. We can all stand to learn from that. His impact, not just in music, is felt across many generations and will be for generations to come.Condolences to the Wilson family. We will forever play the emotional sympathies and honor the legacy of Brian. 🖤🕊️”Also Read: “Reppin’ T-Swift, baby!
