GUWAHATI
The police in western Assam’s Goalpara district arrested five persons for allegedly throwing beef near a Kali temple on Saturday (June 14, 2025) night.
Goalpara adjoins Dhubri district, where the head of a cow was found on two successive nights at the same spot near a Hanuman temple. The police have arrested 38 people in connection with the Dhubri incident.
“Lakhipur police of Goalpara district arrested the individuals for allegedly throwing beef near a temple in a deliberate attempt to incite communal tension post Eid-ul-Zuha,” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on X, sharing the names of the accused.
All the accused are Muslims from the Khakilamari area of Lakhipur, about 175 km west of Guwahati.
The Chief Minister said a case had been registered and strict action was being taken to ensure all “such elements” faced the “full force of the law”.
The incident triggered outrage among locals, who demanded action against the perpetrators of the crime.
