The Belagavi District Milk Union has decided to re-distribute among milk supplying farmers and societies nearly ₹10 crore from its profit of ₹13 crore.
This amount will be spent in providing various types of equipment and facilities to farmers and societies, MLA and union president Balachandra Jarkiholi said in Belagavi on Monday.
Farmers and societies will get subsidies between 60% and 100% to procure equipment.
“We have made a modest profit of ₹13 crore last year. We hope to increase it further in the coming days,” he said.
He was speaking after distributing material worth ₹6 crore to farmers at the union office. He said that such events will be held in all the 15 taluks of the district.
He said that farmers will get equipment like rubber mats, fodder cutters and milking machines. Societies will get bulk milk chilling machines and other sophisticated equipment.
The union has bought 10,000 rubber mats, fodder cutting machines for 350 beneficiaries at a cost of ₹86.10 lakh and electric milking machines for 50 beneficiaries at a cost of ₹13.95 lakh.
As many as 55 societies will get BMC machines. Of them, 15 will be given at 100% subsidy. “We are ready to provide many facilities from our union to make farmers strong by giving more emphasis on dairy farming. Farmers are the asset of this country and the goal is to make them economically strong,” he said.
“The union was clearing all bills in 10 days of milk procurement. It was procuring cow milk at ₹38 a litre and buffalo milk at ₹52. The demand for buffalo milk is increasing. Belagavi district is among the major producer of buffalo milk in the State and its potential will be increased,” he said.
Meanwhile, Balachandra Jarkiholi inaugurated a 3.5 tonne capacity multi-fuel boiler worth ₹2.26 crore.
Union directors Babu Katti, Mallappa Patil, Kallappa Girennavara, Basavaraj Parannavara, Baburao Waghmode, Veerupakshi Etee, Rayappa Dooga, Prakash Amboji, Mahadev Bilikuri, Sanjay Shintre, Ramesh Annigeri, Sadeppa Wari, Shankar Itnal, Savita Khanappagol, managing director V.N. Srikanth and others were present.
