Under the leadership of new head coach Mike Brown, the New York Knicks are looking to make small but significant changes to their roster before the next season starts. And in trying to bring that change, they allegedly offered a one-year deal to Ben Simmons.
But the point guard decided to reject the minimum offer in hopes of something better. While that particular deal is off the table for now, this partnership between the Knicks and Simmons can still happen if he doesn't land a better deal.
New York offered a minimum offer to Ben Simmons but got rejected
The New York Knicks are trying to work on their roster under new head coach Mike Brown, and have offered Ben Simmons a one-year contract keeping with that idea. While Simmons could definitely add depth to their bench, he was hoping for something better than the minimum offer and decided to reject the Knicks, even though his time with the Los Angeles Clippers is done. NBA Correspondent Marc Stein said:"The Knicks, league sources said, indeed offered a one-year contract to Ben Simmons that the former All-Star passed on.
New York is limited to minimum contract offers as training camps draw near and Simmons entered the summer hopeful of securing a contract above the minimum after he split last season between the Nets and Clippers."
He spent half of last season with the Brooklyn Nets, with whom he had been since 2022, before moving to the West Coast for the Los Angeles Clippers in February. But the Clippers failed to re-sign him before he moved to free agency, and have not shown any interest in retaining the 27-year-old either. So now, unless he gets a better deal, it would be better for Simmons to sign with the Knicks for a year rather than not play in the league at all. Also Read: "Paid but not working" - Stephen A.
