Benedict Cumberbatch describes ‘The Roses’ perfect for date night: ‘All is fair when love is war’

Famed actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who is known for his roles as Doctor Strange, as well as Sherlock Holmes, has just officially released his next big project, ‘The Roses’. Starring alongside Olivia Colman, Cumberbatch plays the role of a resentful husband as his wife’s career takes off while his plummets to the ground.

In a recent interview, while talking about his latest release, the actor shared that the film is the perfect film for “date night”.

The two main actors from the film went head-to-head with a hilarious opinion about the film, while speaking to The Hollywood Reporter. Benedict, shared that it is the perfect film for a “date night” and that it will make you think and consider things.

While detailing his opinion further, the actor stated, “You either go, ‘Oh, it’s never going to be that bad.’ Or you get to laugh at it vicariously, or think, ‘Oh, that that hit home,’ and have a talk about it and make sure it doesn’t go the way it goes for The Roses”.Allison Janney, on the other hand, laughed about the comment and ended up disagreeing with her co-star’s take. She shared, “I wouldn’t say it’s a date [movie].

It’s a really satirical look at modern-day relationships. When careers fail or start up, and how it can jump around, and how you weather that as a couple, is something every couple needs to know how to do. It’s not easy, but if you can do it, it’s worth it”.

About the movie ‘The Roses’

In a nutshell, the film follows the lives of a loving couple who end up going through a massive slump due to a work structure imbalance. Ivy, who is played by Olivia Colman, has started facing major success in her career as a chef in her own restaurant. On the other hand, Cumberbatch’s character Theo faces major losses as an architect after the naval history museum that he designed is destroyed by a storm. The satirical dark comedy is based on the novel by Warren Adler. Not only that, but the film is also a new take on the dark comedy ‘The War of the Roses’, which was initially released in 1989. Directed by Jay Roach, the film boasts a powerful cast. Other than the two leads, the film also features Allison Janney, Andy Samberg, Kate McKinnon, Belinda Bromilow, Sunita Mani, Ncuti Gatwa, and Jamie Demetriou, amongst many others.
