A video of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Alipurduar MP Manoj Tigga went viral on social media on Saturday (November 1, 2025), showing him misbehaving with the Madarihat Block Development Officer (BDO) over the distribution of flood relief materials.
As controversy erupted, Mr. Tigga claimed his reaction was provoked by biased flood relief distribution and the mistreatment of opposition workers.
In the video, Mr. Tigga is seen banging the table of BDO Amit Kumar Chourasia and shouting at him, accusing the official of favouring Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders and supporters. “If you want to be a BDO, then do your duties. But if you want to do party politics, go pick up the TMC flag,” Mr. Tigga is heard saying. “We have asked for tarpaulin several times, did you give it to us? No. Which rule tells you to distribute flood relief along with TMC leaders?”
The heated exchange reportedly broke out over the allotment and distribution of government-provided flood relief in the Madarihat block.
“When tea garden labourers and poor people approach the BDO office, they get nothing. Our representatives were denied flood relief, but TMC workers received it easily. How can a public servant act like this?” Mr. Tigga asked.
“They are depriving local, flood-affected people,” the BJP MP added.
Reacting to the incident, TMC MLA and North Bengal Development Minister Udayan Guha told The Hindu that the misbehaviour appeared “pre-planned.”
“A person can make requests, but how can an elected MP use force and misbehave with a government official?” Mr. Guha asked.
