Rajendra Cholan P., Commissioner of the Bengaluru Central City Corporation, swung into action just a day after assuming charge and directed officials to take swift action for creating pothole-free roads, eliminating black spots, and ensuring footpaths are free from encroachments.

He instructed officials and engineers to adopt precautionary measures to address pothole-related issues, especially as the monsoon has intensified.

The commissioner ordered that separate contractors be appointed for each division under the Bengaluru Central City Corporation and that potholes on major roads be filled on a priority basis. He directed officials to ensure that no complaints related to potholes remain unresolved on any web or mobile application used by the public for reporting.

Further, he advised executive engineers to identify roads within the Central Business District (CBD), TenderSure roads, white-topped roads, and high-density corridors for development as model roads. Dedicated nodal officers will be appointed for each of these stretches and held accountable for their upkeep, he said.

Additionally, he stressed the need to complete beautification of metro pillars, undertake roadside landscaping with tree plantations, and install streetlights wherever required.

The commissioner instructed officials to identify one road every week for focused operations and issue prior notices to footpath encroachers before clearance drives.

He further emphasised the importance of inspecting and regulating single-use plastics, with active involvement from officials across all concerned departments.
